On 16 October 2026, Ukrainian Processing Center (UPC) will host an online round table discussion titled “What’s Next? European Payment Trends Reshaping Ukraine”, dedicated to the key developments shaping the European payments market and their impact on Ukraine’s financial sector.
The European payments landscape is rapidly transforming. Instant payments, Open Banking, Open Finance, and Account-to-Account (A2A) payments are gradually reshaping traditional payment models, while new international initiatives are defining the future architecture of the payments industry. For Ukrainian banks, fintech companies, and retailers, understanding these developments matters not only for technological advancement but also for deeper integration into the European financial ecosystem.
During the event, leading international experts will discuss the current state of the European payments market, the prospects for alternative payment solutions, the growing adoption of A2A payments, and the impact of emerging technologies on both the financial sector and consumers.
As part of the agenda, Stephen Jacob of Arkwright Consulting will deliver a presentation entitled “The European Payments Landscape.” His session will explore key trends shaping the European payments market, shifts in the balance among payment instruments, the future of national card schemes, the evolution of Open Banking, and the continued growth of Account-to-Account payments.
The session will also focus on Wero, the European payment initiative. Matthias Dekan from Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) will discuss Wero’s development and the transition from a card-centric payment model to an account-centric approach. He will also address the opportunities and challenges associated with deeper integration into the European payments market.
The event will conclude with a presentation by Anton Romanchuk (UPC) titled “ Future of European Payments: What it means for Ukrainian financial institutions?” The presentation will focus on major trends expected to shape the next five years, including the development of Open Banking, the growing role of fintech companies, the expansion of instant payments, and Ukraine’s financial sector’s preparation for closer integration with the European payments ecosystem.
